The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that was enacted on July 26, 1990. The ADA guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications. An ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan is required of all public agencies by the Department of Justice that have more than 50 employees. The Transition Plan section looks at physical barriers and identifies structural modifications necessary for providing physical access to the City's programs and services.
