Along with the Cozby Library, Biodiversity Education Center, and Community Programs, Life Safety Park is offering virtual volunteer opportunities for teens looking to earn service hours or volunteer experience over the summer. Virtual volunteering includes tasks that can be completed at home or out in the open air while social distancing. Life Safety Study Trips |
---|
We coordinate with DFW-area school districts, homeschools, virtual schools, private schools, and other organizations to schedule FREE “Study Trips.” These unique expeditions outside of the traditional classroom give students the opportunity to learn life safety lessons in a specialized, hands-on environment. If you are a
teacher and would like to have your students visit Life Safety Park, find more information about registering by clicking the link under your class grade level. If you are a
parent and would like your child to visit Life Safety Park during the school year, please talk to your child's teacher about what Life Safety Park has to offer! Parents are also encouraged to register their children for our free safety classes offered during CISD breaks; check back or
view our calendar for a list of all available class opportunities.
COVID-19 Precautions: Safety is in our name. We remain committed to offering fun, safe, and interactive field trips for school-age students at our unique campus. We are implementing social distancing measures, and extra sanitation of high-touch surfaces occurs between all programs. Class sizes and groups are reduced as programming allows. We offer flexibility in programming and scheduling based on group needs. Please call us to discuss any questions or concerns!
For school study trips, specific curriculum is set for each grade level:
Joint LSP/BEC Study Trips |
---|
Life Safety Park and Biodiversity Education Center are proud to again offer free joint field trip opportunities for larger groups (up to 120 students) within Coppell ISD! While one group of up to 60 students visits Life Safety Park for a two hour session, another group of 60 students will participate in Biodiversity Education Center programming at the same time. After a break for lunch, groups will then 'switch' facilities for the afternoon session. Please note that these are two separate facilities: transportation will be required between sites. Starting in 2020, non-CISD groups are welcomed to sign up for joint trips for a small fee and pending availability.
Your visit to the LSP will include an educational safety lesson, with topic determined by grade level (see outline above), as well as hands-on time relevant to the safety topic. Your visit to the BEC will include a naturalist education program, hike, and game of your choice. More class details can be found by visiting the online registration page.

.Car Seat Inspections |
---|
We all want our children to travel safely in cars, and installing a car seat for younger children can be a challenge. Life Safety Park staff are certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) through Safe Kids Worldwide, a partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). As CPS technicians, we can offer best practices to help you make sure your car seats are installed correctly and teach you how to use and install a car seat on your own.
If you would like for Life Safety Park staff to inspect and provide education in car seat installation, please fill out this
online request form to schedule an appointment. Appointments are encouraged to ensure we can properly assist you, but should you have any questions or immediate concerns, please give us a call at (972) 462-5371 or (972) 462-5373.
Some things to consider before scheduling a car seat checkup:
- Be prepared to learn, not just watch the CPS technician install the car seat. They're trained to teach you.
- If you are expecting, try to schedule an appointment one to two months prior to your baby’s due date just in case you deliver early. Many CPS technicians and their agencies require appointments several weeks in advance.
- If your child is already born, know your child's weight and height, and if possible bring your child with you so that proper harnessing techniques can be practiced. If possible, also bring another adult to help watch the child while you are learning.
- Please attempt to install the seat in your vehicle before your car seat checkup appointment. Be sure to use the instructions that came with the child car seat and the instructions in your vehicle owner’s manual regarding car seats.
- Bring the car seat instructions and the vehicle owner’s manual with you to your appointment, if possible.
Other helpful links and things to consider:
- You can also have your car seat inspected by attending a safety event sponsored by a Safe Kids Coalition in your area. Safe Kids coalitions lead their communities in reducing child injury and host more than 8,000 free car seat inspection events across the country.
- Don't live in or near Coppell? No problem. To find a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician in your area, search the technician database.
- Interested in finding out more? Check out this checklist to learn about what you, as a caregiver, can expect from a CPST during an appointment.
Thank you for making time to learn an important skill that will help keep your children safe and give your family valuable peace of mind.
