2040 Strategic Pillar — Create Business and Innovation Nodes

Importance of Business and Innovation Nodes

Coppell has several significant business and commercial nodes. These are centered on the west side of the city, and in the Denton Tap / Sandy Lake areas. Increasingly cities are working to create new models of business and innovation nodes to help navigate the reinvention of retail spaces, and to attract small businesses and start-ups. Within Coppell, Old Town is frequently pointed to as an example of a node development that fits the character of Coppell. It has some more compact footprint single family homes, walkable neighborhood, boutique retail, bars and restaurants, and anchor attractions like the Farmers Market. In addition, the Arts Center is expected to provide an additional boost. These are all experiences people desire and can be experienced in a small location.

2040 Goals:

  • Support the Old Town area and concept.
  • Encourage redevelopment of ‘hot spots’ along the Denton Tap / Sandy Lake corridor as major creativity zone.
  • Work with the commercial / warehouse district to understand the future Version 2.0.
  • Explore future trends in retail and repurposing commercial areas.
