To vote in any election, (including municipal elections), residents must be registered to vote in the precinct where they reside. In order to register to vote you must be a U.S. citizen and 18 years of age. The application must be received in the voter registrar's office or postmarked 30 days before an election for you to be eligible to vote in that election.
Please visit www.votetexas.gov and print an application, which can then be mailed to the appropriate county. You are not registered until you have filled out the online application, printed it, and mailed it to your Local County Voter Registrar. The County Voter Registrar's address can be found at the top of the online outputted voter registration application once you have submitted your information from the fill-in-the-blanks screen.
Please note that the Coppell Greens Subdivision and The Villas at Lake Vista are located in Denton County.

ELECTIVE OFFICE REQUIREMENTS
The City of Coppell is a Home Rule city with a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council consists of a Mayor and seven Council members who are elected at-large by majority vote. Each member serves a staggered three-year term.
Each candidate for an elective office shall meet the following qualifications:
- Shall be a qualified voter of the city;
- Shall have resided, for at least twelve (12) months before the date of the election, within the corporate limits of the city, or within territory annexed into the city prior to the filing deadline; and
- Shall not, after notice of any delinquency, be in arrears in the payment of any taxes or other liabilities due the city. "In arrears" is defined herein as payment that has not been received within ninety (90) days from due date and has not been protested under the same provisions as provided for in the Home Rule Charter.
- An incumbent city council member seeking re-election must file for the same place position number currently being served. No candidate may file in a single election for more than one (1) office or place position as provided by the Home Rule Charter. No employee of this city shall continue in such position after filing for an elective office provided for in the Home Rule Charter.
